Norton Tappet Locating Plate Screw

A small screw that secures the tappet locating plate in the valve gear area of the cylinder head.

PN · NMT2143

NMT2143 is the screw that holds the tappet locating plate in place up top of the cylinder, in the valve gear area. The locating plate itself keeps the tappets/pushrod followers positioned correctly as they ride the cam lobes, and this small screw is what keeps that plate from wandering.

It shows up in the parts books under the Cylinder, Cylinder Head and Fittings section as well as Valve Gear, so it's tied directly to keeping the top-end valve train square. Our catalog record spans appearances from 1971 through 1973, but we don't have enough detail here to tie it to one specific model.

If you're rebuilding a top end and this little screw has gone missing or buggered up, it's worth replacing rather than reusing a worn one, since it's doing a small but important job keeping that plate seated. Call the shop if you want us to confirm fitment before you order.
