Steering stem nut (with steering damper)

Steering stem nut for the telescopic front fork on damper-equipped setups, threading onto the top of the steering stem.

PN · 97-4092
Supersedes 97-4318 — earlier factory number for this part.

This is the steering stem nut for the telescopic front fork on the models that came with a steering damper fitted. It threads onto the top of the steering stem, above the top yoke, and clamps the whole steering head assembly together while also providing the anchor point that the damper mechanism bears against. The catalog places it specifically on the 1971 front fork setup.

Our records show this nut carries forward from an earlier factory number, 97-4318, so if your parts book or an old invoice lists that number, it's the same physical part under a different number. It also shows up under the older H4092 designation in some references.

If you're rebuilding a steering head or replacing a damper assembly, this is the nut you want on hand. Since it's specific to the damper-equipped fork setup, check what your bike is currently running before ordering to make sure you need this version rather than a plain stem nut.
