It's also known under the older factory number 97-4167, which this part number replaced, and it shows up in catalog listings from 1969-1970 under the legacy H3633 form as well.

On the fork this piece sits down near the top of the slider, working alongside the fork seal to keep road grit and water out of the stanchion tube while the forks do their job. It's a small item but an important one for keeping the fork internals clean and the seals doing their work properly.
