This is the left-side muffler hanger, part number 83-7022, out of the exhaust pipes and mufflers section of the parts book. The catalog note on this one tells you exactly how it's used: it goes on with 71-3761 and a 3/8 spacer, so if you're ordering this hanger plan on having that spacer and the companion part in hand too, not just the bracket by itself.

A muffler hanger like this one does the job of holding the rear of the silencer steady against the frame or footrest mount, keeping it from bouncing around under vibration and road shock. This particular left-side piece was superseded later on by 83-7021, so if your parts book or an older invoice shows this number, that's the same physical part under Triumph's later numbering.
