Nyloc nut
A nyloc (nylon-insert) locknut used at frame and footrest/brake linkage points, part number 82-8987.
This is a nyloc nut, part number 82-8987, shown in the catalog under frame, complete frame assembly, and footrests and brake linkage figures. Nyloc nuts use a nylon insert to keep them from backing off under vibration, which is why they turn up on frame hardware and footrest/brake linkage fittings rather than plain nuts in those spots.

The older parts book form of this same nut is F8987, so if you're working from an early book and see that number, it's the same part as 82-8987 today.
Our catalog record ties this to frame and footrest/brake linkage points across appearances from 1968 to 1970, but it doesn't spell out thread size or which specific bolt it pairs with. Check what you're pulling it off of and match up size before ordering.
