REAR STRAP,BATTERY TRAY
Rear strap that secures the battery tray in place near the oil tank on these Triumph twins.
This is the rear strap for the battery tray, 82-8028, also known under the older F8028 number and appearing on some parts lists as M82-9255. It shows up in the oil tank figures because that's where the battery tray sits, tucked in alongside the oil tank on these frames. The strap secures the back of the battery box so the battery and tray stay put under vibration and don't work loose over time.

It's a simple piece of hardware but an easy one to lose track of or let rust through, especially on a bike that's been sitting or been through a few repaints. Catalog listings for this part run from 1968 into the mid-70s.
If you're replacing your battery tray or doing a full oil tank area rebuild, it's worth checking the strap along with it — a bent or corroded one won't hold the tray snug, and a loose battery box is no fun to deal with once you're back on the road.
