SPRING SEAT LATCH
Spring for the Triumph twin seat latch plunger, part 82-4228, keeps the seat locked down snug on the tank rails.
This is the small spring used behind the seat latch plunger on Triumph twin seats, part number 82-4228, also seen in older records under F4228. It shows up in the parts books under the gas tank and twinseat, panels and twinseat, and mudguard figures, which tells you it's a seat-mounting item rather than anything to do with the frame or suspension.

The spring sits inside the seat latch mechanism and provides the tension that keeps the plunger pushed out against the frame mount, so the seat locks down snug instead of rattling around on the tank rails. If your seat feels loose at the back or the latch doesn't hold like it used to, a tired or broken spring in this assembly is a common reason why.
This one turns up across a long stretch of Triumph twin-seat production, so it's worth having your parts book open to confirm the seat and latch hardware on your bike matches before you order. It's a small, inexpensive part to keep on hand if you're already in there working on the seat mounting.
