LOCK TAB WASHER-GEARBOX SPROCKET-5 SPEED
Lock tab washer for the 5-speed gearbox sprocket nut, keeps the nut from working loose.
This is the lock tab washer that sits behind the gearbox sprocket nut on the 5-speed gearbox. Its job is to keep that nut from backing off once it's torqued down - the tab bends up against a flat on the nut (or a corresponding notch) so vibration can't walk it loose. Simple part, but the kind of thing you don't want to skip or reuse if it's tired.

The part shows up in the gearbox shafts and gears figures for the 5-speed box in our catalog, and it carries forward from an earlier factory number, 57-4395, so if your parts book lists that number instead, this is the same piece under the current number. Catalog appearances for this one run from the mid-1970s into 1980.
It's a small, inexpensive item, but it only works once - a lock tab that's already been bent and straightened doesn't lock reliably a second time. Worth having a fresh one on hand any time you're into the gearbox sprocket area.
