Index plunger spring
Index plunger spring for the gearbox inner cover, keeps the selector plunger under tension for clean gear engagement.
57-4059 is the index plunger spring out of the gearbox inner cover, where it works against the gear selector mechanism. This is the small spring that keeps tension on the plunger so the gearbox holds its selected gear cleanly instead of hunting or slipping between positions. It shows up in the parts book under the GEARBOX INNER COVER AND SELECTORS figure, and the older stamped number for the same part is T4059.

It's a simple, easy to overlook piece, but if it's fatigued or broken you'll feel it in vague or sloppy gear selection even if everything else in the box is in good shape. Given how cheap insurance it is to have on hand, it's worth including whenever you've got the inner cover off for other selector work.
Our catalog record on this one is thin beyond the figure it appears in, so if you're chasing an exact fit for your gearbox, give us a call and we'll confirm before you order.
