MAINSHAFT c/w THIRD AND LOW GEARS
Gearbox mainshaft with third and low gears, Triumph part 57-2275, later superseded by 57-4039.
This is the mainshaft assembly for the gearbox, complete with third and low gears, as listed under part number 57-2275 (the earlier catalog form was T2275). It shows up in the parts book under GEARBOX SHAFTS, BEARINGS AND INNER COVER, so it's part of the shaft-and-gear cluster that sits inside the gearbox shell along with the layshaft and inner cover components.

The mainshaft carries the third and low gear pairs that get selected as you work up and down through the box, so it's a load-bearing piece of the gear train rather than a simple spacer or bush. Catalog listings for this number run from 1967 to 1969, and it's since been superseded by 57-4039 - if your parts book or an older gearbox turns up the newer number, that's the same physical part under Triumph's later numbering.
If you're rebuilding a gearbox and pulling shafts, it's worth checking wear on the gear teeth and the shaft journals where the bearings ride before putting this back in service. Give us a call if you want to confirm what else needs to come out of the box alongside it.
