Layshaft Low Gear (28T)
The 28-tooth layshaft low gear used inside the gearbox cluster for first gear, also known by its older T961 part number.
This is the layshaft low gear, a 28-tooth gear that lives on the layshaft inside the gearbox. It's part of the gear cluster that gets rotated into play when the box is shifted down into first, taking the drive from the mainshaft through the layshaft and back out again at a lower ratio.

In the parts books from the earlier era this one shows up under the T961 number, which is just the old letter-prefix style before Triumph moved to the numeric-only 57-0961 form. Same physical gear either way, so if you're working from an older book or an old parts list, don't be thrown by the different-looking number.
The catalog record shows this gear appearing across gearbox shaft and gear listings from 1960 through 1970. It doesn't pin the gear to one specific model, so if you're matching this against a box you've got open on the bench, check the tooth count and how it sits in the cluster against what you've pulled before you order.
