Gearchange quadrant plunger
Spring-loaded plunger for the gearchange quadrant inside the 4-speed gearbox outer cover.
The 57-0406 is the gearchange quadrant plunger, a small spring-loaded part living inside the gearbox outer cover. It bears against the quadrant to hold each gear selection with a bit of detent feel as you shift, and it's part of what gives the box its notchy, positive-feeling gear changes rather than a vague, floppy one.

This one shows up across the catalog under the older T406 number as well as the current 57-0406, so if your parts book is an older edition, look for that legacy code. It appears in gearbox outer cover listings spanning quite a few years of unit-construction production, and the grounding data ties it specifically to the 4-speed cluster.
It's a wear item that's easy to overlook, but a tired or worn plunger can leave the gearchange feeling soft or imprecise. Worth having on hand when you're in the outer cover anyway for other gearbox work.
