Gearchange spindle bush
Outer gearchange spindle bush that fits in the gearbox outer cover, supporting the shift spindle where it passes through.
This is the outer gearchange spindle bush, part number 57-0057, also known under its earlier T57 designation. It lives in the gearbox outer cover, where the gear change spindle passes through on its way out to the shift lever. The bush gives the spindle a wear surface to ride in as it pivots each time you work the shifter.

Over time that bush wears and the spindle starts to get sloppy in the cover, which shows up as vague or imprecise gear changes. It's a cheap part to replace compared to machining or sleeving the cover itself once the bore wears oversize. The catalog shows this one appearing across gearbox outer cover listings from 1968 into the mid-1970s.
If you're in there replacing this bush, worth checking the matching kickstarter spindle bush at the same time since it lives in the same cover and sees similar wear.
