This is the Welch plug for the gearbox layshaft, part number 57-0018. A Welch plug is a small dished disc that seats in a machined bore to seal off a hole left from manufacturing or from a passage that doesn't need to stay open in service - here it closes off the layshaft bore in the gearbox.
