Barrel and tank assembly
Barrel and tank assembly from a 1974 front brake master cylinder, later superseded by 60-4397.
This is the barrel and tank assembly out of the front brake master cylinder. It's the part that turns lever pull into hydraulic pressure, pushing fluid down the line to the caliper. If your lever feels soft or the front brake won't build pressure, the bore or piston in this assembly is usually where the trouble starts.

Our records show this number in front brake figures for 1974, and it's been superseded by 60-4397 in later parts books, so if you're cross-checking against a newer catalog that's the number you'll find it under.
Check the bore for scoring or pitting before you commit to a rebuild kit — a corroded barrel will chew through seals no matter how good the internals are. Call the shop if you're not sure which master cylinder is on your bike.
