Outer distance piece

Outer distance piece (spacer) for the quickly-detachable rear wheel spindle on QD-equipped Triumphs.

PN · 37-1170

The 37-1170 is the outer distance piece from the quickly-detachable rear wheel setup on Triumphs of this era. It's a spacer that sits on the wheel spindle, taking up the gap between the hub and the fork end so the wheel sits correctly and spins true when the QD wheel is refitted after being pulled for a puncture on the road.

This part shows up across the QD rear wheel figures in the parts books, both the U.S.A. and non-U.S.A. versions, so it's a long-running fitment across a wide span of catalog years. You may also see it listed under the older W1170 form if you're working from an early parts book.

It's a simple bit of hardware, but it's easy to lose track of or leave out when a wheel comes apart on the bench. If yours is worn, bent, or missing, it's worth sourcing a replacement before putting the wheel back together so the hub sits where it should.
