Norton Plug, Magnetic, Sump
A magnetic drain plug for the sump/crankcase that catches metal debris in the oil.
This is a magnetic sump plug, catalog number 06-4188. It sits in the crankcase where it drains the sump, and being magnetic it catches fine iron and steel particles circulating in the oil before they can do more damage working through the engine.

The parts-book listing places it with the crankcases, filter, breather, and tachometer drive on this bike's engine, which tells us where in the lower end this plug lives, but our record doesn't tie it to a specific model or year beyond the one catalog appearance we have on file.
Worth pulling and cleaning off at oil change time — that's the whole point of a magnetic plug, it's picking up wear debris so you can see what's floating around in there. Give the shop a call if you want to confirm this is the right plug for what you're working on.
